Let’s start with David Price. Our starter set the tone with two strikeouts swinging to begin the game against Cleveland. They scored only one run in his seven and two-thirds innings (a gay home run by Raburn in the 2nd) as Price struck out seven on the night.

Detroit responded on the scoreboard with a two-out double from Ian Kinsler, scoring Nick Castellanos in the third inning. Then, J.D. Martinez launched a two-run bomb with Miguel Cabrera on third base the following inning for a 3-1 lead.

With our swag in check, Alex Avila made the catch of the year to open the fifth. On a foul behind the plate, Avila jumped into the air and secured the ball, letting the back netting catch him:

AVILA! Call him Spiderman! Our catcher also threw out a stealing runner in the top of the 3rd.

The wheels came off for Cleveland after the seventh inning stretch to the tune of four Tiger runs, all with two outs. Enter Victor Martinez: Ian Kinsler on second, Torii Hunter on first. V drove one past the infield with enough distance to score Kinsler. Then, J.D. “The Hero” blasted himself a triple to deep right-center, clearing the bases as a flying V came home to score.

On the next play, Avila seemed to break the Indians’ Manager’s will with a squibber down the third base line. It bounced off the bag, they failed to field it, and our final seventh run scored. Their skipper yanked the pitcher after throwing his first pitch, and you could see that “Fuck You-Phil Coke” look on his face.

Jim Johnson relieved Price and recorded the last four outs, letting one run past before closing the door. Old man Giambi rumbled around the bases for a 7-2 final score.

mlbf_36187303_th_43It was breast cancer awareness day in Detroit. I was truly inspired by the women in the stands. Watching one of the survivors talk about her struggle brought me to tears. Here is their website: http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org. Great job, Tigers, showing your support.
