The aerial shot showed Ford Field and Comerica Park, side by side, as the fans traveled from one stadium to the other. My brother was one of them, watching the Tigers in the afternoon before taking his seat for Monday Night Football.

Detroit didn’t disappoint. Matthew Stafford dodged a blitzing Giant on our first possession, buying enough time scrambling to find a wide open Megatron to start the season. The sold out Lions crowd went wild and didn’t stop all night long.

The volume wreaked havoc on Eli Manning and New York starting with their first possession. Detroit quickly got the ball back and again, Stafford struck Calvin Johnson on third and goal for a 14-0 lead. What a feeling.

The rest of the first half was unlucky, with a couple of gay penalties. Stop hating on the Lions – Schwartz is gones. We knelt for a 14-7 lead at halftime.

We came out correct (credit Jim Caldwell) in the second half, playing solid defense and tacking on two field goals (after missing one in the first half). Finally, Stafford put the game away on another amazing scramble, going the distance and juking into the endzone.

Our biggest mistake was forgetting to run it. Detroit seemed to abandon the run at times, going three-and-out on one goal line trip on all passing tries. We also didn’t kill the clock enough, and Stafford saved the day with that third down run.

We won 35-14, completing one of the best nights in Detroit history. Certainly that I’ve ever been apart of.
