Final in 14, Tigers 2, Mariners 1

This game was a pitching duel between the M’s King Felix and Detroit’s Max Scherzer. They matched each other with 8 innings, one run, and 12 strikeouts apiece. 12 K’s apiece. Damn. No two starters in the history of Safeco Field had every thrown 10+ K’s before.

So, on and on the 1-1 tie went. Each side stranded snarfs.

Then, in the top of the 14th, the Tigers rallied. A leadoff single from Victor Martinez provided the spark. Next, with Don Kelly pinch running, Matt Tuiasosopo walked. Jhonny Peralta came up to bunt, and the M’s took the throw to third. Kelly was safe. No outs, bases loaded. Brayan Pena, starting at catcher, grounded out, but scored the run. It was the only mark we managed, sending a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the inning.
