Let’s set the stakes:

In a tumultuous season, Detroit sat below .500 at the trade deadline and decided to deal three free agent stars.

Then, right after our GM completed the trades, our owner fired him, Dave Dombrowski, our G since 2001. Wrong move, Mike: Brad Ausmus deserved that ax. Nonetheless, the fucking Kansas City Royals were rolling into Detroit for a three-game series that us fans and players had no choice to prepare for.

No surprise, the loss of Dave D. hung over Comerica in the first game, a 5-1 loss. Luckily, we’re still in good hands: assistant GM Al Avila (Alex’s dad) has been with us during Dombrowski’s entire tenure and helped bring in talent consistently.

A turning point in the season may have emerged last night. Or yesterday afternoon. Oldschool and I missed it, but we did help us close out game two with the aid of my brother. Aka the Tiger Karma was flowing for the series finale.

Down 3-0 early, Detroit rocked KC’s starter for four in an ensuing inning on a 3-run Victor Martinez homer, one of two on the game for V. Eventually, a 6-6 game entered the bottom of the ninth.

Ian Kinsler stepped up to bat with Jose Iglesias on base. He lifted one into the sky, flying above and just beyond the wall in left field for the game-winning home run!

You could feel the eruption at our ball park, filling everyone with positivity and hope once again.
