Max Scherzer outdueled Chris Sale to earn his 14th win of the season.

Prince Fielder singled in Torii Hunter for the game’s first score.

Rookie Hernan Perez started at second base and played his best since being called up to help out while Omar Infante heals. His glove was in full effect, setting the tone.

In the fifth, he reached base on an infield error. Credit his speed for allowing him to reach on a hard hit ball. Then, the kid stole second. This is where the rally began: because first base was left empty, the White Sox intentionally walked Miguel Cabrera with two outs.

Mistake.

Fielder, feeling rightfully insulted, took a four pitch walk. That loaded the bases for Victor Martinez, who singled (sexy) in Perez and Cabby.

The ensuing frame for Chicago led off with their first base runner of the game, due to a hit Cabrera couldn’t get to. “Triple” pulled himself from the game with an apparent sore hip flexor muscle. Our G is day-to-day.

Down 3-0, a solo home run for the White Sox sent them to within two. However, Hunter responded with a blast of his own to right field, upping the lead back to three.

Scherzer let one more run in before finishing the 8th inning on 105 pitches. He struck out five and gave up four hits, walking none.

A 4-2 game went haywire in the 9th. Brayan Pena started the inning off with a single. Perez tried to bunt Pena over and ended up safe on a throwing error. While Austin Jackson batted next, Pena got caught in no man’s land between second and third – but another bad throw to third allowed him to score and Perez to move to third. Jackson doubled, upping the lead to 6-2. Jackson eventually scored on another Martinez single. V finished 4-5.

Phil Coke got the first out in the bottom of the ninth, then Bruce Rondon relived him. Rondon got the second out quickly, then gave up a double to Alex Rios. Rios moved over to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on a balk for the 7-3 final. “Big Donkey” struck out on a full count to end the game.
