In game one of the three game series in Kansas City, Justin Verlander notched the win in a 10-1 win over the Royals.

The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning. Ian Kinsler led off with a base hit and advanced to second base on Torii Hunter’s ensuing fly ball. Miguel Cabrera then doubled over the left fielder’s head, scoring Kinsler. V drove home Big Cat (for his 100th RBI), who slid home ahead of the tag. Finally, with two outs, Eugenio Suarez sent one down the line to score Martinez.

A double play guided Verlander through his first inning, then Detroit tacked on another run. Hunter doubled deep to right, scoring Rajai Davis from first base. In the bottom of the 2nd, Verlander stranded runners at second and third with one out.

Alex Avila was forced to sit out with concussion symptoms. He seemed to help Manager Brad Ausmus, standing by his side. In his absence, rookie call-up “The Can” manned the backstop. Can reached base on his first major league hit, then stole second base before scoring our 5th run. That chased Kansas City’s starter in the 4th inning.

The floodgates started to open the following inning after Nick Castellanos worked a great at-bat to a full count, then singled home V to put us up 6-0. Suarez sent home the 7th run, which scored J.D. Martinez. Then,”The Can” drove home Castellanos when their double play throw sailed wide of the first base bag.

With Can on base, Kinsler stepped up and cranked one high into the left field sky, soaring just fair thanks to oldschool channeling his inner-Rookie of the Year with a nice, “Stay fair. Stay fair!”

There wasn’t any looking back from 10-0 with Verlander pitching into the 8th inning. The lone run came on a mental lapse from the diving-wonder boy Carrerra. Evan Reed relieved our ace with one out, and Blaine Hardy pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
