Here are a few things for Detroit to work on.

#1 Rest V, he just isn’t looking right swinging. Now that we’ve got ourselves this stacked lineup, his #2 MVP form won’t be pressing. Instead, we should be saving him for the second half of the season. We’ve been down this road with Victor Martinez before, coming off his missed 2012. And look at how well it worked to take it slow and steady. Although he re-emerged as a heavyweight last year, we have J.D. Martinez, Ian Kinsler, Yoenis Cespedes, and a healthy “Big Cat” in the power department.

#2 Because of all that strength, it’s vital to stop swinging for the fences every time. I like it when our batting champ Cabrera just levels out his swing for an unstoppable base hit. It’s like clockwork to watch these nine guys bat around, but once we desperately want the home run, our magic disappears. And it’s too long of a season to force power hits. Also, by taking more singles, those pitchers will tire out faster. You can see J.D. is in a slump because he so badly wants to deliver a crushing blow. But it’s not necessary over nine innings with this team. The little things will eventually add up.

#3 Keep trusting our defense. Early on, we were far from perfect. We let contact exist and our fielders made great plays. Obviously, Shane Greene got into trouble once he walked some snarfs. His mantra was surrender a home run before a base on balls. But once you are tested, you doubt yourself. Hold true to your saying, Shane, and we’ll back you up.

#4 Just stay healthy. Fuck our record until at least the summer. Let the Royals peak now and we’ll continue to develop throughout the season.
