Some rain tried to snarf with today’s Boston-Detroit battle, but in the end, the game went on.

Max Scherzer struck out seven Red Sox in six innings, allowing none to score and seven to reach base, four of which were walks.

He earned the win and was backed up in relief by Evan Reed, Ian Krol, Joba Chamberlin, and Joe Nathan, in order. The bullpen snarfs were flawless, surrendering no base runners and striking out two.

Detroit’s lone run came in the first inning! With one out, Ian Kinsler hit one to the third basemen, who couldn’t handle it. Next, “Big Cat” walked. After “V” took his turn, Torii ripped a single between the left and center fielders, scoring Kinsler.

Detroit benefited from three Tiger double-plays. The Red Sox reached third base once in the bottom of the sixth, then Scherzer struck them out to end the inning.

Rick Porcello has the hill tomorrow in Boston for game two at 7:10 PM ET.
