Trailing 9-6 in the 4th quarter, Michigan went for it on fourth and 2 at the Northwestern 4. Devin Gardner was stopped with under six minutes to play.

The defense held, allowing Michigan one more chance with no timeouts left and under 2:30 on the clock.

Gardner moved the offense past midfield before taking a devastating sack as the clock ticked on. Gardner had one play left:

And it was good. Overtime. Michigan scored a touchdown on their first possession, putting the pressure on the Wildcats. However, NW responded with a touchdown, too, tying the game again. Michigan held NW to a field goal but had to settle for one as well, bringing up a third overtime.

Gardner completed a third and two at the five by running it in for a score, then scrambled again for the 2-pt conversion. The Wildcats were sacked big on second down, forcing two bad throws and finally an interception to end the game. 27-19 final.
