Take those 20 runs… and give ’em to Kansas City!

The Tigers trailed 1-0 in the first behind starter Anibal Sanchez.

They would score the next 16 runs.

We scored five runs in the second. In the third, we loaded the bases, but Andy Dirks was picked off third base. The momentum seemed to swing: the batting Tiger struck out, as did Austin Jackson to end the inning.

Low and behold, the Tigers picked off Emilio Bonifacio the very next at bat to steal their swag back. Bonifacio drifted too far for Prince Fielder’s liking at first. The next inning, we scored five more runs.

In the fifth, “Mr. Furious” Omar Infante launched a double to the top of the wall with the bases loaded, clearing them. It should have been a home run, but some snarf interfered, and the umpires botched the call.

Infante and Dirks continued their onslaught, knocking in two more runs and finishing 5-5 each on a night when Fox Sports Detroit chose “When was the last Tigers 5-hit game?” as the trivia question. Sorry, Quentin Berry, the record has been reset!.

The Royals scored the last run on a sacrifice fly in the 9th for a 16-2 final score.

Every Tigers starter reached base at least twice. Miguel Cabrera returned and looked much healthier after receiving some rest.
