I attended game six in Grand Rapids at Van Andel Arena last night. The Red-Wing studded Griffins looked better than the Oklahoma City Barons, but early penalties put the “Oil” Barons up 1-0.

Three Griffins goals had us cruising into the third period up 3-1. However, playing desperately to our playing defensively, the Barons brought it back to Grand Rapids for a game seven, winning 4-3. The team may be running high on Oklahoma’s emotion, as they rallied to score twice in the final two and a half minutes.

Grand Rapids abides, continuing to serve $2 beers and hot dogs from 6-8 pm. There’s no doubt that this extra game boosted the local economy. Last night, even in loss, was an awesome time in downtown GR. My dad, brother, and I talked about it to other people, hopefully who supported the Griffins in tonight’s 5-4 win.

The Griffs and Barons battled back-and-forth tonight, tied 1-1 after one and 3-3 after two periods.

The Barons struck first in the third, going up 4-3. This is a time when the going get tough, and Grand Rapids is a tough city. The boys tied it at four before taking the final advantage, 5-4.
