The Tigers scored in their first at-bats. Miguel Cabrera worked a two-out walk, then Victor Martinez teed one down the first base line. As the Rays fumbled around for it, “Big Cat” circled the bases, beating the throw home on a hustlin’ slide. The game stayed at 1-0 Detroit for six innings.
With Porcello pitching smoothly, we looked to score in the seventh. Again on two outs, the Tigers rallied with a Rajai Davis double. Ian Kinsler sent him home, then Torii Hunter singled as well. While Big Cat walked to load the bases, Martinez waited on deck. Victor worked a couple of pitches, then turned on one and sent it high into the right field sky, going way back into the stands for a grand slam!
Everyone was stunned. It sat at 6-0 through the stretch, the 8th, and the 9th, helping keep the momentum for Porcello’s complete game.
