Fuck the lights.

I’m just kidding: 3-4 days in darkness without heat in 20 degree Michigan winter has been fun, but upon realizing my power returned at 3:00 AM this morning, I couldn’t be more grateful.

60+ MPH winds decimated the electricity for maybe millions of Michigan residents, including oldschool & I, this week, coinciding with extraordinarily low temps.

First: as a sports writer, listening to the Pistons & Cavs battle in their final contest of all-time at the Palace of Auburn Hills may have been the most fun I’ve ever had. I caught myself smiling from ear-to-ear as the 1st half ended on an amazing Pistons run to take the lead despite trailing by 15 early on. I teased my dad when we were down and he listened on the radio with me instead of on his headphones – call it a instant Karmic shift.

Look, I was kind of happy to not stare at a screen for three hours. The ups and downs of the game seemed easier to let go of on the radio. It was an all-time game where Detroit worked together down the stretch to overcome an electric Kyrie Irving plus a LeBron James triple double.

What will tomorrow bring? I don’t know. But neither do you. So make the most of today, it’s all there is…
