The game stayed scoreless for the first half of action thanks to Petr Mrazek stopping several tough shots, including one point blank rebound in the second.

We were on the doorstep at the end of the period ourselves, just barely missing a few tries. Then, unexpectedly, St. Louis’ coach called timeout with about two minutes ’til break. We capitalized, scoring twice before the horn.

Joakim Andersson scored our first goal, jamming home his first of the season. Tomas Tater used a nice backhanded flip to send us into the final period up 2-0.

The Blues got on the board when a deflection passed just under Mrazek’s pad. They were on a man advantage thanks to a weak penalty on Henrik Zetterberg. We answered on our own power play with a third goal, but they waved it off due to our boy being in the crease.

Still up 2-1, Detroit was about to close the game out, then a streaking St. Louis snarf tied it with under a minute left in regulation. Off to overtime. (I threw on the Yzerman jersey.)

I turned the game on with just over three minutes left – oldschool had been calling the game for me. After stopping a flurry, the Red Wings held onto the puck for one last hurrah. They separated enough to give Pavel Datsyuk space for a slap-shot – and it was too much for their goalie to handle, rolling over his right shoulder and into the net!

Detroit won their fourth out of six straight games on the road. We lost the opener, then responded with a pair of wins, and did the same thing after losing the 4th game by winning our final two. Much credit goes out to our goalie, who is becoming better with all the experience our injuries keep providing.

The Red Wings will now return to the Joe for the first time in 2015.
