Snarf (snärf): A humorous occurrence and/or person, specifically one relating to the world of sport

About Us

The Sporting Snarf is a website dedicated to the enjoyable, humorous, and nuanced aspects of the sporting and (to a lesser extent) pop-culture world. We attempt to touch upon (in varying degrees of print/video length) engaging topics which are not discussed nearly enough. We'd love for you to give us your perspective, network, and participate regularly. But if you'd just like to join in on the mob-mentality and get all sanctimonious on a particular sports figure -- head on over to ESPN.com. (Mickey Mouse welcomes you.) Or you can keep it real with us.

No Justice: Mitch McGary Can’t ...

Damn. Maybe I had it more relaxing in certain ways than these student-athletes. MM can’t even puff in a city where it’s essentially legalized. It is decriminalized, and you’ll only receive a ticket like a parking fine. “One night in mid-March, with the NCAA tournament about to begin without him, McGary was hanging out [...]

Spartans Outlast Virginia to Round Ou...

It was a similar finish to the Michigan game. Down two, Virginia heaved a half court buzzer-beater and bricked. These eight teams will try and win their respective regions and cut down the nets this weekend (Snarfs pick): Florida vs. Dayton (Flyers) Wisconsin vs. Arizona (Wildcats) Michigan State vs. Connecticut (Spartans) Michigan vs. Kentuc [...]

Michigan Hangs On

We really played well. Things just got a little sketchy at the end… The Wolverines led 45-34 at halftime. We essentially kept a double-digit lead all the way through to 70-60 with 3:41 to play. Then, the Volunteers started to make buckets. After a Jordan Morgan dunk, Michigan only scored one point in the final two minutes. Turnover #1 ( [...]

Strong Day for State of Michigan

In addition to the Wolverines advancing to the Sweet 16, Michigan State made it for back-to-back years by both schools. Last season was the first time it’d ever been done. The Spartans beat Harvard, who were coached by former Michigan head coach Tommy Amaker. Also, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Wild in Minnesota 3-2. After giving up an [...]

Michigan Beats Texas 79-65 to Make Sw...

The NCAA Tournament is loco. My blood is now officially at boiling room temperature for the next weeks. Michigan started a little slow, but Big Ten Player of the Year Nik Stauskas made our first two shots, both 3′s, to keep it even early. The Wolverines honestly played great except for surrendering offensive rebounds. We led 43-30 at th [...]

Michigan Advances

Wofford, you barked but didn’t bite. You fouled the sh out of us, but our coach kept us calm. Great defense by the Blue allowing 20 points in each half. Stay grounded, G’s.

Wofford: A Place in My Heart

December 2, 2006 Michigan defeated Wofford on a Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor. It might have been my best memory of attending a Wolverine basketball game in college. My buddies and I were nicely intoxicated, and my buddy wore a “FUCK WOFFORD” T-Shirt. The police stopped him in the Crisler bathroom and politely told him to flip h [...]

#2 Seed

Lost Trey Burke, Naismith Player of the Year. Lost Tim Hardaway Jr., Junior & First Round NBA Pick. Lost Mitch McGary, pre-season All-American to back surgey. Improved seed from #4 in ’13 to #2. Won Big Ten. Not bad, Michigan.
