So, I built this article up for a while. I was so overjoyed upon finally seeing in person the woman I’ve loved for so long, and being with her in Canada has made me happier than I’ve ever felt before.

Michigan won their first Final Four game in epic fashion, completing a sensational 2nd half comeback over Loyola University Chicago. Their entire run, from the flood during the Big Ten Tournament (just like last year) that they won (again) – then went on to drain an improbable Sweet 16 miracle shot and cut down their region’s nets as the champions of the West.

Jess & I listened to that game vs. Loyola on my local radio station courtesy of an app, making me feel right at home like I have this whole time in this gorgeous, mountainous town of Trail. But, and this strangely is the real heart of this article: I want it to be clear to Canada’s border patrol I have one helluva family and home in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

There is no being here without my mom, dad, stepdad and brother. My heel bone may be crushed, but I’m here with the emotional and financial support of four people (Jess would say “five!”) that love the hell out of me. I have a house on the river that we OWN and free health care in the United States – BOO YA!

So while I’m humbly gracious to be in this divine country, I have one of my own – and despite the rant of a man literally up to his windows in flood water, I sure do love it.

And I also love Jess. That’s not a crime, right?
