You could claim the Tigers’ resurgence of late is due to Brad’s infamous ejection on Monday, but maybe it has had more to do with the return of originally drafted by Detroit Cameron Maybin?

In just four games back in uniform, he is leading our team with as many stolen bases. And he’s worked the count, something that impressed me in his first at-bat – shown the ability to bunt (another major area we are lacking in; see: sacrifice fly) and flash additional speed on the basepaths, taking the extra base and confusing the defense.

Maybin is the logical leadoff hitter for Detroit. Ian Kinsler has always been a natural #2, for he can’t help himself swinging early in the count, Big Cat #3, V #4, J.D. #5 (again, a more natural spot for the powerful Martinez), young Nick #6, Upton’s impatient ass #7, the Can #8, Iglesias #9.

The biggest justification in the Fire Brad chant is his inability to play small ball. We rarely sacrifice, and there’s a cog in our lineup from #2 – #6 with nothing but born sluggers.

From the get go, the wish (that is becoming a dream) is just to sprinkle in a few manufactured runs with all our power. Tonight, we worked so hard behind two Big Cat HR’s, but it was to no avail.

The tirade was cute, but the body language Ausmus shows back in the dugout remains unassertive, unengaged, and unalert – looking more like the backup catcher and less like the guy in charge.

So at least adjust the lineup – Maybin is exactly what we’ve been wanting at the top of the order. And let our G’s work together, don’t put it all on one Tiger at the end to bail you out, Brad…
