How else can you describe an 8-0 Tigers advantage vacated by the seventh inning – only to be took back again on more superhero baseball.

The 1st inning was magical – our first game back at Comerica with Kirby’s ashes in right-center field. Ian Kinsler led off by smashing the first pitch from Minnesota over the left field fence. J.D. Martinez and “Big Cat” followed up with ensuing walks, and “V” moved them over (accidentally). Nick drove one in and Salty worked a bases loaded walk after Cameron Maybin walked as well, bringing up Jose Iglesias. He worked a 2-1 count, then cashed in our hard work with a bases clearing-double. The Twins pulled their starter down 6-0.

Kinsler and J.D. piled on back-to-back doubles for that 8-0 start. But the next inning, Jordan Zimmerman let one fly with a man on. He admitted after the game he didn’t force himself to pinpoint his throws – and next thing he knew, here came the Twins. Another solo shot made it 8-3 entering the 4th, when the rain began. We went on to make a series of bad fielding plays and Minnesota scored 4 more runs to make it a one-run game.

The next inning after Nick K’d, Brad Ausmus awoke from his slumber, storming home plate umpire, removing his jersey and covering home plate with it. It may have settled things down. Not until the 7th did the Twins tie it on a J.D. Martinez dropped routine-catch. 8-8.

Luckily, Nick bailed us out, going yard after the stretch. And Martinez made up for his miscue, blasting a solo shot beyond the dugout in left. The 10-8 lead held, earning Zimmerman the win.

Should we fire Ausmus, still? Probably. But for one night, he manned up, found his sack, and actually did some good: helping us win by getting the fuck outta there!
