This has become a problem. What happened??

After one of the best day’s in Detroit history, we followed it up with a shotty, average show on Martin Luther King Day.

Early in the season, we couldn’t really score, but our defense was so good, we were winning. In the last six weeks, our shots began to fall, and our young minds have wandered away from the tenacious D that got us back above .500.

This is the midway point in the year, so let’s examine ourselves now and adjust before the playoffs.

It starts with Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond. The two superstars seem to shift gears at will, a problem with the cell-phone era. Life does not start and stop at your convenience! Ask Walter in The Big Lebowski, no? Too often I see the stars hang their head when a call goes against them. And that’s how you literally take yourself out of the game – free your mind and the body will follow.

Also, we are stacked now. Deep bench, complete players. But the predictability of coach Stan Van Gundy’s substitution patterns is discerning. KCP is averaging 37 minutes a game, top 5 in the NBA. All he does is try and maximize potential sans a feel for the pace.

I found this loss to the Bulls to be a massive step backward and a cruel thing to do to Detroit fans basking in Saturday night’s glow.

Either wake up now while it’s only halfway through the season, or be doomed to continue to make the same mistakes, likely lose, and maybe, just maybe, ultimately miss out on making the playoffs.
