The Tigers just played the game of the year. But, thanks again, to improper management, the hearts in Detroit will silently weep.

And this is for real. We scored eight fucking runs and lost 10-8. Here comes the breakdown:

The Astros did some nice snarfing out the gate, hitting a triple with two on and then benefiting from an Anibal Sanchez balk for a 3-0 hole. You know lesser men would have caved, right?

Get ready for five Tigers runs in the bottom half of the gate. Ian Kinsler worked a walk just like Anthony Gose before him, who’d been thrown out stealing. Stepped up Miguel Cabrera, who ripped a double down the left field line. Runners at second and third. My dreams came true when J.D. Martinez swung at the first pitch for a deep sacrifice fly, putting us on the board (crucially). With runners at the corners after Big Cat tagged and took third, Yoenis Cespedes knocked in another run. Finally, the bases were loaded with two outs for backup-backup catcher Bryan Holaday. And with emotions high upon that early bagging from Houston, he launched the hit of the season so far, striking a double into left field for a bases clearing lead taker. FIVE TO THREE.

And then Sanchez woke up. Good god did he catch fire, striking out eleven Astros along the way and never allowing a single run for four straight innings. Detroit tagged two more on an amazing triple by Gose with Andrew Romine on first, he hopped on his horse to score the 6th, then the next inning, Nick Castellanos blasted a double over the right fielder’s head to take a 7-3 lead.

And now get ready for our manager to shatter your dreams. Sanchez surrendered a lead off home run in the 6th, and you got all those extra innings out of him, so pull him right now. Almost 100 pitches. Nope. Runners at the corners some batters later, and a three-run homer tied the game. All that for nothing. This is the Brad Ausmus song.

I’ll scramble the next few innings to show you what happened: our relief gave up three more runs, the same amount Sanchez SHOULD NOT HAVE SURRENDERED if that homer was prevented. Game should have been tied going into the bottom of the ninth instead of 10-7. Miguel Cabrera batted with one out AND BELTED A SOLO SHOT TO LEFT FIELD, forcing some unexpected tears form Young $. What can I say, we put everything we had into this one and THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR WALK-OFF. Fuck, Ausmus. Fuck.
