DETROIT —

“As expected, the Tigers have extended one-year qualifying offers to both Max Scherzer and Victor Martinez, the team announced Friday afternoon. The announcement comes a day after seven Tigers players officially entered free agency.

The Tigers had until Monday to extend the offer after the conclusion of the World Series, and Martinez and Scherzer will now have have until 5 p.m. on Nov. 10 to accept or reject the offer. At 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, they will be permitted to negotiate and sign with other clubs if a deal with the Tigers has not been reached.

Both players can still negotiate with the Tigers, but if either player elects to sign with a new team, the Tigers will receive a compensation pick in the 2015 draft while the new team will be forced to forfeit its highest unprotected pick.

The Tigers have said they would like to bring both players back, and Scherzer and Martinez have indicated they’d like to return. However, both players are expected to reject the qualifying offer and seek out a lucrative multi-year contract.

No player has ever accepted a qualifying offer. Since it has been an available tool in the current collective bargaining agreement, 22 players have rejected the offer.

The Tigers did not extend one-year qualifying offers to free agents Torii Hunter, Joba Chamberlain, Phil Coke, Jim Johnson and Joel Hanrahan.”

*I hope Scherzer and Victor know how much we love them. Please, we’ll pay you!

We also re-signed Joakim Soria to a one-year, 7 Million dollar deal. Oh, and Hunter can go fuck himself:

As part of a political Governor ad for Asa Hutchinson, Republican in Arkansas, Hunter said, “Asa is committed to the principles we hold dear, like a strong faith in God, equal justice for all and keeping marriage between one man and one woman.”

This is the second time Hunter’s thoughts on gays have made national headlines.

Two offseasons ago, he told a Los Angeles Times reporter he would be “uncomfortable” with the idea of having a gay teammate.”For me, as a Christian … I will be uncomfortable because, in all my teachings and all my learning, biblically, it’s not right, ” he said then. “It will be difficult and uncomfortable.”

Well, I guess that solves that – adios, bigot!

(And our boy Dirks signed with Toronto after we let him go for health reasons. Dirks!)
