The cheap, no good, dirty rotten Boston Bruins returned to Joe Louis Arena for our season opener tonight. Henrik Zetterberg also celebrated his 34th birthday.

The Red Wings featured all their sensational Griffins from last season – Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Jurco, among others. We all know the Bruins can’t skate or play real hockey, so as usual, they resorted to their cheap tactics.

After out-shooting Boston 7-0 to start the game, they got lucky on their first try of the night, scoring just past Jimmy Howard’s glove. That’d be the only puck that went through Howard’s net all game.

We came out a little more intense after one period of play, going hard at their net constantly. The effort resulted in a pair of goals, one by Nyquist. Johan Franzen “The Mule” assisted both.

Howard held the Bruins and the Red Wings stopped every power play in the third period. The dirty play of Boston backfired at the end of the game, when goaltender interference cost them their one-man advantage. Howard secured the puck in his chest on the game’s last big save. Then, the Detroit crowd really came to life. We hadn’t won since our Tigers took the division two weeks ago Sunday, so the catharsis filled the air.
