Alex Avila banged home the game’s walk-off winner in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. Avila sent one past Ichiro in right field with Tigers on first and third and the game tied.Beautiful Day in Detroit

Call-up starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein kept us in the game, giving up only two runs (one earned), four hits, and one walk on the afternoon. He was backed up by Blaine Hardy, Joba Chamberlain and Phil Coke.

The Tigers scored their runs in large part to the “Don” Kelly. Our first run in the second inning came after Kelly moved Nick Castellanos over to third base on a single. Castellanos scored on Avila’s sacrifice fly to dead center. Then, Kelly tied the game for Detroit in the fifth inning. With two outs, Rajai Davis singled him home from third base. That run started with a walk that the “Don” worked over to second on a wild pitch.

Coke punched out the Yankees in the 9th with two outs and runners on first and third. Victor Martinez lead off the bottom of the inning with a double, letting Bryan Holaday pinch-in the winning run. Adios, Derek!
