We all know Ian Kinsler has little love-lost for his former team the Texas Rangers. To exclamate his beliefs, Kinsler drove one into the stands of his old ballpark in his first at-bat back. The camera showed an angry, intense face on Ian. He motioned to the Ranger’s dugout on his way to first, then broke into a smile as he rounded the base. Miss me?

Drew Smyly allowed his only run, an unearned one, to make it a tie ball game for several early innings. Detroit re-took the lead on another Tiger home run courtesy of the red-hot J.D. Martinez with his brother Victor on base. The floodgates opened for the rest of the inning, as Detroit batted around to bring Victor back to the plate with the bases loaded. He drew the walk, knocking in another run for a 6-2 lead.

The Tigers tacked on two more the ensuing inning after watching Al-Al pitch. Al might be the most bipolar player I’ve ever seen. Hit batter. K. Home run. K. K. Oh, Al. Kinsler brought in the runs with a bases loaded single. Detroit worked four consecutive base hits with two outs.

Phil Coke, bullpen savior, guided us through the 8th, and fresh call-up Chad Smith gave up one run before retiring the 9th. Smyly earned the win after throwing 102 pitches in six innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out five.
