The Panthers scored the game’s first goal on a breakaway with 25 seconds left in the 1st.

That would be the only one Jimmy Howard allowed. Our goalie literally saved the day with clutch stop after stop in the second and third periods.

The Wings got on the board during a second period power play. Daniel Alfredsson found the back of the net, tying it at one. Later in the period, after a nice Howard save, Gustav Nyquist took the puck and skated down the left side of the ice with no one in front. He fired a shot and scored, top shelf.

The game stayed at two while Howard fought off a furious rally late in the third. He found himself alone with a Panther in front of the net but blocked the puck. The Red Wings killed a power play in the waning minutes and put home an empty-netter for the 3-1 win in Florida.

One game left Saturday @ Tampa Bay before the Olympic break.
