Detroit, MI

Seattle started the game off with a single. The runner was at third with two outs, and Jose Iglesias robbed the batter of a hit up the middle with a leaping grab.

Torii Hunter scored in the first inning on a wild pitch. The 1-0 lead held until the Mariners hit a solo home run.

The M’s lineup consists of low-batting average players who have a decent amount of homers.

The 1-1 tie held for five innings. Rick Porcello let two runners on in the top of the 6th before striking out two batters to end the frame.

The Tigers rallied to provide Porcello the win in the bottom half of the inning. Victor Martinez knocked in Miguel Cabrera, then Omar Infante did the same for Prince Fielder.

Drew Smyly pitched a clean 7th, striking out the snarf who hit the home run to end the inning.

Tom Wilhelmsen has tortured “Detroit Snarfs,” my fantasy baseball team, all season with his poor outings. I would be failing to include you if I didn’t mention the delight I took in Alex Avila lining one off Wilhelm’s ass to lead off the bottom of the seventh, then safely reaching first without even a throw from the catcher. Avila was bunted to second base by Iglesias and singled home by Hunter for a 4-1 lead.

The M’s doubled off Smyly with two outs in the 8th, then singled to bring the game to a 4-2 score. Jose Veras relieved Smyly and got the out.

Joaquin Benoit walked the first Mariner to start the 9th inning. The next M hit into a double play, setting up the final snarf for a game-ending strikeout.
