Coolaid Cal (MIA) and Manager Drew Watts (Red)

About a month ago, I listened to a track called “Ms. Good Good” by Coolaid Cal, an artist who was following me on Twitter. I was impressed, and I posted a link to it on the site.

Wouldn’t you know it, I was looking at the Midwest Tour dates for his concerts, and he was coming to Muskegon, MI… an hour away from Grand Rapids.

I had to go. I drove an hour through rain, and was paranoid if he was even showing. He was one of the last performers, and I felt so glad I was there. After he finished, we met.

Cal is very humble and puts an incredible amount of dedication into his entire craft. I listened to a lot of unreleased songs that were professionally produced plus written by Coolaid. With diverse melodies, you aren’t ever bored – everything is fresh. Cal is versatlie. He has a range of sounds that all are original. Impressive.

These tracks will be apart of his upcoming mixtape and first album. 2 years ago, performing the record “Friends wit Benefits,” led to an offer from Mike Carren, VP of Atlantic Records. Apparently, Cal just signed with Universal. I saw unreleased music videos already filmed on his iPhone, including “Ms. Good Good.”

I heard different gears – he has an incredible variety of sounds, can sing and rap, and has tracks I would listen to on repeat.

Cal doesn’t find a need to swear. With “Multiple Music Videos ready for release and a Nationally promoted debut mixtape, Cal has a very busy 2012 set in store.”
