Snarf (snärf): A humorous occurrence and/or person, specifically one relating to the world of sport

About Us

The Sporting Snarf is a website dedicated to the enjoyable, humorous, and nuanced aspects of the sporting and (to a lesser extent) pop-culture world. We attempt to touch upon (in varying degrees of print/video length) engaging topics which are not discussed nearly enough. We'd love for you to give us your perspective, network, and participate regularly. But if you'd just like to join in on the mob-mentality and get all sanctimonious on a particular sports figure -- head on over to ESPN.com (Mickey Mouse welcomes you.) Or you can keep it real with us.

Coolaid Cal Concert

Coolaid Cal (MIA) and Manager Drew Watts (Red)

Saturday, November 26, 2011

About a month ago, I listened to a track called “Ms. Good Good” by Coolaid Cal, an artist who was following me on Twitter. I was impressed, and I posted a link to it on the site.

Wouldn’t you know it, I was looking at the Midwest Tour dates for his concerts, and he was coming to Muskegon, MI… an hour away from Grand Rapids.

I had to go. I drove an hour through rain, and was paranoid if he was even showing. He was one of the last performers, and I felt so glad I was there. After he finished, we met.

Cal is very humble and puts an incredible amount of dedication into his entire craft. I listened to a lot of unreleased songs that were professionally produced plus written by Coolaid. With diverse melodies, you aren’t ever bored – everything is fresh. Cal is versatlie. He has a range of sounds that all are original. Impressive.

These tracks will be apart of his upcoming mixtape and first album. 2 years ago, performing the record “Friends wit Benefits,” led to an offer from Mike Carren, VP of Atlantic Records. Apparently, Cal just signed with Universal. I saw unreleased music videos already filmed on his iPhone, including “Ms. Good Good.”

I heard different gears – he has an incredible variety of sounds, can sing and rap, and has tracks I would listen to on repeat.

Cal doesn’t find a need to swear. With “Multiple Music Videos ready for release and a Nationally promoted debut mixtape, Cal has a very busy 2012 set in store.”

There were so many different performers including local amateurs (from Muskegon), making me paranoid that CC might skip the Hot Spot.
